Train the Safety Trainer is a course delivered by the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) and hosted at the VICA Victoria Training Centre.
Who should take this course?
This course is designed for people who are responsible for providing safety training in their organizations.
What will you learn?
Based on thousands of hours of experience from a wide variety of trainers and adult educators, this one-day course is designed to help you plan and deliver safety training. With an emphasis on the delivery of training and lesson presentations, this course will focus on helping you to develop practical skills that you can take back and use in your classroom or work setting. Over the course of the day, you’ll receive up-to-date information on how to instruct adults and gain the knowledge and skills you need to develop effective instructional practices quickly.
By the end of this course you’ll be able to:
- Design a training session and use media in instruction
- Conduct a lively interactive training session
- Select appropriate instructional strategies and learning activities
- Use effective visual materials
- Deliver instruction in a supportive environment
This course uses a simulation format. Participants will be asked to deliver one short lesson (mini-lesson). In addition, they will be asked to participate as a learner during the lessons that are taught by their colleagues. Each of the simulated lessons will last approximately 10-15 minutes. As the learner during others’ presentations, they will complete a feedback form and then take part in a brief wrap-up session during which the “learners” and “instructor” of that lesson share their insights and suggestions.
