FREE for VICA Members | Join us for this pilot of our new workshop on concrete technology for construction and let us know what you think. Can't make it to this one? Email education@vicabc.ca to be notified of future workshops.

What will you learn?

This workshop will strengthen your understanding of concrete in order to avoid costly mistakes during construction. We will review real-life case studies and you'll learn how avoid common construction issues.

This workshop will also cover important code clauses, roles and responsibilities of various parties, and specification clauses to look out for. In addition, we'll cover upcoming changes with the new 2019 Concrete Code, which will soon replace the 2014 Code currently used on construction sites. You'll leave with key information that will help you be prepared for new requirements on your job site.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • understand the basics of concrete technology
  • understand the roles of specifications and codes
  • identify onerous clauses in specifications
  • be aware of upcoming changes in the concrete code
  • develop a plan of action when things go wrong
  • plan your concrete project to avoid issues by
    • completing a specification review
    • applying the take-away lists provided from the course

Who should take this course?

This workshop will benefit anyone involved in concrete construction including foremen, superintendents, project managers, estimators, and owners.
