The Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA) serves over 450 member companies and their employees, on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and coastal British Columbia. With offices in Victoria and Nanaimo, we provide the local construction industry with training, skilled labour, business intelligence, and networking opportunities to help them grow their business while raising industry standards of excellence.

Current Opportunities

Manager of Training and Education

Victoria, BC | Full-time

The Manager of Training & Education is responsible for coordinating all professional development programming and initiatives at the association. This involves researching industry trends and workforce needs, sourcing and vetting topics, materials, and third-party training providers, as well as coordinating and producing in-person and virtual courses from start to finish, including:

  • online registration creation,
  • web course page listing,
  • managing registration
  • compiling and reviewing evaluation and feedback summaries post- session.

This role also includes researching trends and best practices in adult education.

The Education Manager interacts with VICA members, prospective members, non- members, education service providers, potential funders, and industry stakeholders.

SCOPE

  • Provide industry-wide education coordination, including planning. implementing and evaluation of educational projects.
  • Research, assess and identify training and development learning needs and requirements for industry on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure educational offerings align and fulfil industry needs.
  • Develop and/or procure training programs that address the competency/skills gaps in industry in response to changing workforce dynamics and regulations.
  • Remain abreast of new legislation and the emergence of new professional standards affecting industry educational requirements and opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage training programs that are delivered by third-party vendors; research and recommend external programs, sourcing, negotiating, selecting and awarding contracts to vendors through a competitive procurement process.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of educational offerings and methods of delivery and facilitator information.
  • Track and evaluate the usage and success of the program and its individual elements.
  • Identify and report on common educational offerings, needs, trends and concerns in the system, facilitating discussions surrounding areas identified in order that improvements can be undertaken.
  • Participate in province wide planning meetings with other regional construction associations.
  • Assist in development budgets and business plan for the education program.
  • Assist Director of Operations in management/reviewing of education department staff.
  • In partnership with communications staff, develop marketing plans to promote the education program to members and the industry.
  • Attending conferences/tradeshows/seminars to promote courses and learn about new opportunities in adult education.
  • Write quarterly and as-needed reports on Training & Education programming for Director of Operations.
  • Identify, establishes, and maintains performance measurements and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) for quarterly reports.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for education program questions and concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field of study; 3 years applicable experience.
  • A familiarity with the ICI construction industry in British Columbia is an asset.
  • Experience with event/learning management software.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Proficient in computer and software applications.
  • Valid drivers license and vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Interacts with employees, management, VICA members, stakeholders, and the public at large.
  • Located in Victoria, travel between Victoria and other parts of Vancouver Island

may be required.

  • A standard work week but may occasionally work outside those hours to accommodate activities such as after-hours training and VICA events.

OTHER

This job description covers the Education Program Manager’s direct duties and
responsibilities. However, in some circumstances, the Director of Operations may assign other tasks.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Salary: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
