Reflections from the 2026 Canadian Construction Association Conference

Last week’s Canadian Construction Association (CCA) Conference in San Diego was a strong reminder of the value of national collaboration and how much we gain when leaders from across the country come together to share perspectives, identify challenges, and look ahead at where our sector is heading. Each year, this gathering reinforces the importance of our affiliation within the CCA community, and this year was no exception.

Throughout the sessions and conversations, one theme came through clearly: the construction sector continues to navigate change at a rapid pace. From workforce pressures and procurement processes to technology adoption and sustainability, the issues we face are complex and deeply interconnected. Yet the conference also underscored something even more powerful, despite the current challenges, there remains a shared commitment across regions to strengthen our industry, support our workforce, and contribute to resilient, thriving communities.

A notable highlight this year was the strong alignment we saw with our colleagues from California. Despite the strained geopolitical climate globally, the conversations with our counterparts south of the border were marked by mutual respect, practical collaboration, and a shared recognition that the challenges facing our sector transcend borders. Issues like supply chain resiliency, labour mobility, climate adaptation, and construction innovation are not confined to any one jurisdiction—they are continental and global in nature.

Seeing such alignment, even in uncertain times, was both reassuring and energizing. It reinforced that constructive, professional partnerships remain possible and essential when we focus on common goals and shared industry outcomes.

Our national affiliation within the CCA plays a critical role in this. It gives us the platform to participate in larger conversations, to exchange perspectives across regions, and to ensure our members’ realities are represented at the national level. The insights and connections we bring home from this conference directly inform the work we do throughout the year, helping us advocate more effectively and support our Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast sector more meaningfully.

As we move forward, the momentum from this year’s conference will carry into our ongoing initiatives, policy dialogues, and member engagement. We return home with new ideas, strengthened relationships, and renewed confidence in the value of our national and cross-border partnerships.

Our affiliation with CCA continues to be one of our greatest strengths—and together, across Canada and beyond, we remain committed to building a resilient, innovative, and future‑ready construction sector.
