Knappett Industries wins Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Award
Knappett Industries Ltd., a VICA member based in Nanaimo, took home an Award of Excellence from the Deputy Minister’s Contractor of the Year Awards on December 8, 2017. The Awards recognize excellence in the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects and are broken down into five categories: Road & Bridge Maintenance, Community Services, Bridge and Structures, Grading, and Paving.
“Every day, hard-working people are delivering on highway, road and bridge projects, creating robust infrastructure to keep people and goods moving safely and efficiently, throughout B.C.,” said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claire Trevena.
Knappett Industries won "Bridges and Structures" and was recognized for their work on the Rees Bridge Replacement and North Courtenay Connector. The project included a new, 58-metre, two-lane bridge across the Tsolum River to improve the Comox Valley’s north connection to the Island Highway, which was completed on time and under budget.
Surespan Structures Ltd., also a VICA member, received honorable mention for their work on the Salmon River Bridge.
Transportation contractors make seismic upgrades to keep our roads safe, build relationships with local communities to minimize traffic flow disruption during construction, respond to emergency situations, and work within short construction windows and sometimes adverse conditions to ensure our roads and bridges are safe and reliable.
