Scholarships

The VICA Scholarship Program provides funding to support apprentice participation in construction trades technical training at a recognized post secondary institution. The VICA Scholarship Program will be reviewed annually by the Trades and Scholarship. VICA will annually allocate a total of $3500 to the scholarship program. At present there are seven scholarships that fall under two award categories:

1. The VICA Apprentice Scholarship is available for award to the highest technical training achievement for South Island Partnership apprentices in six trade categories; carpentry, electrical, joinery/cabinetmaking, plumbing, sheet metal and welding.
The South and North Island Partnerships (SIP/NIP) Offices will report the highest achieving student for each of the six construction trades to the VICA Trades and Scholarship Committee for their approval in October annually.
In the event of a tie for the top achieving student, the student who has demonstrated the overall best attitude, motivation and attendance based on recommendation from the technical training department will be awarded the scholarship in their trade.

2. The VICA Super Star Apprentice Scholarship is available for award to a construction apprentice at any level who has overcome obstacles and adversity to successfully complete technical training.
VICA will award one Apprentice with a $500 scholarship for further technical training based on a written submission from an apprentice or a family member, employer, secondary school, or recognized post secondary institution within the SIP and NIP jurisdictions to the VICA scholarship selection committee.
